Television Advertising Forms

1. Realist Narrative
2. Anti-Realist Narrative
3. Animation
4. Documentary
5. Talking Heads
6. Stand Alone/Series

Realist Narrative: The advert appears to be set in real life. It would be a normal day-to-day occurrence. A realist narrative is an advert with a story, supposing to be believable and realistic.

Anti-Realist Narrative: There is a story behind the advert, although it would be very fictional. Not day-to-day behaviour.

Animation: Animated production. Maybe CGI or voice overs, but no actors actually running around. Animation is used for different reasons where live action is inappropriate for message, style or content.

Documentary: Uses a lot of factual information. Relies on informing the audience rather than entertaining the audience.

Talking Heads: Where people talk directly into the camera. Direct human contact, facial expressions, eye contact and the voice are used to sell the product. It is often used in charity adverts, where people have benefited from, often thanking them for their efforts, like Red Nose Day or Children In Need.

Stand Alone/Series: Simple advert that continues in a series. Tell a continuing story that evolves throughout the series. Attempted to keep the audience focused at all times. Familiar with characters, the plot and maybe even the product.
